Mom Tips - For Around the House, #4

I so enjoy the little "mom tips" that I've come across in life - those little things that I've learned from my mom, or a mom friend, that just make life a little nicer.  Things that make the "daily-daily" just a little easier, or make me smile a little more, or maybe will be a time saver for me.  I'm not referring to the bigger projects like de-cluttering or re-organizing, (although those definitely make me smile)!  But just the small things - the "mom tips" that aren't in the self-help books, they're just life-experience things that I've gotten from a mom with experience under her belt.  Well I'll share with you some Mom Tips for Around the House, #4; I hope they bring a simple breath of fresh air to your regular every day patterns!  *smile*

Large Family Camping (2012) - It's Very Do-Able!

For the first time ever we went camping for 3 days with all 11 of us together this summer - nine children between the ages of 14 and 1 - and we had a great time.  *smile!*  We also had my parents and my 3 siblings and their families with us, making a group of 26 total (16 kids, and 10 adults).  Using three adjacent camp sites.  I didn't know how it would go for our littlest 4 Shupes (ages 3, 2, 1, 1), and was honestly prepared to retreat home (35 minute drive) with the 4 youngest kids if everything fell apart *chuckle*, but with on purpose planning and working together as a family they did great!  And we have so many wonderful memories to enjoy, to laugh about, to remember together...I wouldn't trade it for the world. *smile*

  • Unpacking - nightmare, or not?
  • Tackling the laundry - on purpose!

Favorite Recipes: Greek Salad Pitas

Serves 6
Prep. time 30 min. or less

This has been a nice summer dish for our family!  And I simply chop up a pita pocket for the 1, 2, and 3-year-olds in the family, toss it with the salad mixture, and they eat it with a spoon.  I found the recipe through Vegetarian Times and slightly modified it to fit our tastes.  "To pack this for lunch, wrap the pita pockets separately, and fill them with the salad just before serving.  Or enjoy the chopped salad o it's own with a bowl of soup for dinner.  Note:  Pepperocini are thin, small pickled chile peppers that range in spiciness from medium to medium-hot.  Look for them in the Italian section of large supermarkets."

Becoming a Master Used-Clothing Shopper!

Fourteen years ago when Bob and I were first married I began shopping used clothing stores to help our finances stretch - but now I'd never go back to buying new!  *laugh!*  I save so much money, and find beautiful, name brand items by shopping smart.  Not that name brands are important to me, but quality is, and a good fit, and longevity are so that they'll last Bob and I a long time, or through multiple children's use.  It's a very rare thing for me to need to buy something new and doing so is just about more than I can stand having experienced the immense savings of shopping for nice-used.  And, learning to shop used has been a huge, huge blessing as the Lord has increased our family size by 9.  *smile*
